Paper Princess by Erin Watt

Let’s talk about Paper Princess, a book that came out years ago but still lives rent-free in my head. If you love drama, rich-boy angst, and a heroine who refuses to back down, this series is a must-read.

I read Paper Princess back when it was first released, and honestly? It was one of those books I devoured in one sitting. Written under the pseudonym Erin Watt (a mash-up inspired by NFL players Aaron Rodgers and JJ Watt), this was a dream collaboration between two powerhouse romance authors, Elle Kennedy and Jen Frederick. And let me tell you—it was addictive.

The first book in the series follows Ella Harper, a tough-as-nails teenager who’s just trying to survive. After losing her mum, she’s left fending for herself, working as a stripper to make ends meet. Then, out of nowhere, she’s thrown into the ultra-privileged world of the Royal family—not actual royalty, just absurdly rich people who act like they rule the world. The Royal brothers? Absolute nightmares. Think Cruel Intentions levels of toxic, but somehow, you can’t look away.

Ella is offered $10,000 a month to stay with the Royals and attend their exclusive prep school. Sounds like a dream, right? Except the brothers, led by Reed Royal, are determined to make her life hell. And yet… they’re impossible to hate. Even at their worst, they pull you in. It’s messy, over-the-top, and totally unrealistic—but that’s what makes it so fun.

If you’re looking for deep literary fiction, this isn’t it. But if you want pure escapism with high-stakes drama, tension, and a cliffhanger that will have you scrambling for the next book? This is for you. And clearly, I wasn’t alone in my obsession—Paper Princess spent 12 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller list, proving just how many of us got sucked into this chaotic world.

Would I hand it to a 14-year-old? Probably not. But for anyone who loves a juicy, binge-worthy read, the Royals series delivers. If you haven’t picked it up yet, consider this your sign.
