Price of Angels by Lauren Gilley

Recently, when downloading my ebooks, my husband noticed I had 56 Lauren Gilley books. I think he was stunned. Then he realized I also have them as ‘book trophies’—signed physical copies. What can I say? I like what I like. And Lauren Gilley? She delivers every time.

Price of Angels is a protection story at its core, a romance between Holly and Michael that’s built on tension, trust, and the kind of deep wounds that only someone equally damaged can understand. It highlights something I’ve always loved about Gilley’s work—the way she writes found family. The club isn’t just a backdrop; it’s a living, breathing unit, but not everyone within it is the same. Not all family members play the same role.

Michael is scary—but not in the same way Mercy is. He’s a different kind of threat, a quieter danger that lingers beneath the surface. And Holly? She’s been through enough to recognize that danger for what it is, but she doesn’t back down. Their connection isn’t about fixing each other—it’s about the broken pieces fitting together.

Also, I’d like to take a moment to talk about Ghost in this book. Because Ghost? Was an ass. No sugarcoating it. He’s the kind of character that makes you want to throw your book across the room (except, you know, it’s an ebook, and I like my Kindle intact). But that’s also what makes Gilley’s books so compelling—she doesn’t give you easy characters or simple resolutions. She makes you feel everything, even when it’s frustrating.

Gilley doesn’t do easy love stories, and this one is no exception. It’s raw, a little messy, and full of the kind of emotional depth that keeps me coming back to her books again and again. If you want an MC romance with real heart, Price of Angels is worth every page.
